Fasikl Co-Founder and CEO Zhi Yang Receives 2026 BMES Wallace H. Coulter Award for Healthcare Innovation
(BLOOMINGTON, Minn.) October 8, 2026 – Fasikl is pleased to announce that its Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Zhi Yang, PhD, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Wallace H. Coulter Award for Healthcare Innovation by the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES). The Wallace H. Coulter Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development and translation of biomedical technologies into healthcare applications.
Dr. Yang is also an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Over the past two decades, his research has focused on neural integrated circuits, neural interfaces, NeuroAI, and brain-machine interfaces. His research team has developed technologies for ultra-low-noise neural recording and simultaneous neural recording and electrical stimulation, enabling neural activity to be captured during therapeutic stimulation. Building on these technologies, his work has advanced NeuroAI models that learn from neural and clinical data to guide and personalize neuromodulation therapies across multiple therapeutic applications.
In 2019, Dr. Yang co-founded Fasikl to translate advances in neural engineering and AI into practical therapies for patients. Under his leadership, Fasikl developed Felix NeuroAI, an FDA-cleared, AI therapeutic for essential tremor. Fasikl continues to advance its NeuroAI platform toward additional neurological conditions.
The award reflects the collective efforts of researchers, engineers, clinicians, and team members who have contributed to advancing these technologies from laboratory research to clinical applications and patient care.
Dr. Yang will deliver the Wallace H. Coulter Award lecture, “AI Therapeutics: When AI and Neuroengineering Converge to Treat Disease,” at the 2026 BMES Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, on October 23, 2026.
